Award-winning composer Jimmy López Bellido has been described as "one of the most interesting young composers anywhere today" (Chicago Sun-Times). His works have been performed by leading orchestras around the world and his music has been heard in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, Sydney Opera House, Gewandhaus Lepzig, Kennedy Center, Vienna’s Musikverein, Concertgebouw, and Konzerthaus Berlin. As part of the Renée Fleming initiative, the Lyric Opera of Chicago commissioned him a full-length opera based on the bestselling novel "Bel Canto". The world premiere took place on December 2015 to wide critical acclaim and was subsequently broadcast U.S. nationwide on PBS’ Great Performances. He served as the Houston Symphony's Composer-in-Residence from 2017 until 2020. Aurora & Ad Astra, a new album featuring Andrés Orozco-Estrada, Leticia Moreno, and the Houston Symphony, was released on January 14, 2022 on Pentatone. “Aurora” has been nominated to a 2022 Latin Grammy in the “Best Classical Contemporary Composition” category.
